Help us stage a powerful new musical reimagining Dream of the Red Chamber, where love, freedom and fate collide in London’s West End.
Caged Sisters is a bold new musical based on Red Mansion's Dream (《红楼梦》), widely regarded as one of the greatest literary masterpieces in Chinese history. Rich in symbolism, poetry, and social critique, this 18th-century novel by Cao Xueqin offers a sweeping portrayal of love, power, and decline within a once-glorious aristocratic family.
Our adaptation brings this timeless story to the stage through the voices of the You sisters—two women who seek love and dignity in a world that demands their silence. One obeys. One resists. Both pay the price.
With a score that fuses traditional Chinese melodies and instruments with the pulsing energy of contemporary musical theatre, Caged Sisters offers a thrilling and genre-blending experience.

At its heart, Caged Sisters is a story about women, identity, and survival. While rooted in classic literature, it speaks to contemporary struggles, including female agency, social expectations, the consequences of love, and the cost of freedom.
This production gives voice to characters rarely heard on Western stages, with a creative team that blends diverse cultural and artistic perspectives.
We are proud to announce that Caged Sisters will premiere this August in London’s West End, as part of the Camden Fringe Festival.
