I am raising £5000 start up fees to help Equi-Power RDA create a new, purpose built riding for the disabled centre in Stirling.
Project History:
In 2014, Bannockburn RDA was forced to close when a new landlord purchased the Sauchieburn Estate and evicted the group. There was a national outcry as 28 horses were rehomed and over 350 adults and children with disabilities lost access to their life changing RDA services. Central Scotland lost a national centre of excellence that supported participants both in therapeutic activities and to compete and excel all the way to Special Olympic and Paralympic level.
Project Aims:
In 2015 Equi-Power RDA was established as a small charity with BIG aims: To find a base on which to create a purpose built RDA centre of excellence, both for former Bannockburn users and for generations to come; this time from a purpose built premises which can serve the whole community. Stirling Council stepped forward to donate the perfect site at Kildean, Stirling. And plans to incorporate facilities for the riding, carriage driving, equestrian vaulting, learning and volunteering activities for which RDA is known UK wide were born, including a sensory riding trail around the River Forth. The centre also plans a cafe, disability access playground and Changing Places toilet that are open to the public, providing a community hub where everyone can meet, play and enjoy time together.
Project Challenge:
Equi-Power now needs to raise £140k start up funds to get this amazing project off the ground. As Group Organiser I am climbing Dumyat 100 times between 1st March and Easter Sunday with giant replicas of Laddie, Dana and Angel (our RDA horses) strapped to my back. That's 84000 feet and 334 miles of climbing! Along the way I will be raising money and awareness for this wonderful cause and hoping to inspire a whole army of community champions to join me!
How Can You help?
