Aim

Support Mary Lockhart. and make it a Labour win for the Lochs Council by-election. Any donation no matter how small is vital to our campaign

The retiral of Councillor Wille Clarke, one of three independent Councillors that supported  the Labour administration, has forced a by-election in the Fife Council ward of The Lochs. His departure means that we have to fight to take, not merely retain a seat.

As Labour's candidate Mary is delighted to stand on Fife Labour's record.  In particular Mary is proud  of Fife Labour's record in building new council houses, and the provision of support for local facilities (as can be seen below)

As a local resident that was born and lives in Ballingry,  she is aware of and campaigns on local issues that need addressing throughout the ward.  That is from pavement and roads; to Stagecoach's withdrawal of essential Public transport  links; from concerns about the tidyness and lack of easy disabled access to Ballingry's cementary in Benarty;  to GP services and engagement with young people, she is determined  to work with our communities to address local concerns.  To that end you can contact Mary at:

At the national level, turmoil preoccupies our Party.   However, this is a local election, being fought by an energetic and committed local candidate. A candidate that wishes to make a real difference for her community, the people of Benarty, Kelty and Kingseat.  She works for you,  for Fife and for Labour.

Supporting you - campaigning against the bedroom tax

Dave Moxham, Deputy General Secretary STUC said...

“When the STUC along with community organisations from across Scotland launched our campaign against the bedroom tax, Mary was the first to come to our aid, chairing and speaking at public meetings, bringing together key organisations from Scottish civic society, lobbying Ministers and ensuring that Labour was at the heart of the campaign. I can think of no person better to ensure that key Labour priorities come together with community concerns to deliver change for those who need it most"

Mary's Priorities

  • Council Houses
  • Modern Apprenticeships, and training
  • Supporting Communities to own and manage facilities
  • Community Engagement in Public Service Development and local planning, including budgeting - and this means making education and training available
  • Education
  • Services for Disabled and Elderly people  in which they have a say, and which are tailored to their needs...including development of Care villages.
  • Building activities and events in community facilities to make them vibrant

What people say about Mary

Jane McAdam - Ballingry... “ Three years ago, I didn’t know who Mary Lockhart was until she introduced herself to me as my new neighbour in Kirkland Gardens, Ballingry. I suffer from Polycystic Kidney Disease, a life threatening condition, and ever since I met her Mary has been a total inspiration and a big part of my life. No matter what time of day or night, Mary has always been on hand to help me when I am seriously unwell. She fought tooth and nail for 18 months for my PIP, taking me to various tribunals, medical boards and hospital appointments, eventually helping me towards a successful claim to my benefit entitlements. I will never be able to thank Mary enough for her tremendous commitment and care – not just towards me, but towards many other who have asked for her help.”

Libby McArthur Actor - (Gina, River City)... " My endorsemet of Mary Lockhart in her stand as councillor for the Lochs is something I do with pleasure. Mary was probably the first person in my youth that demonstrated to me what it meant to be politically aware. Her ability to motivate people is well known but it's the way she inspires others through her ability to hold a space for an inclusive conversation would be an asset to any constituency. It's not just Mary's passion and optimism regarding her political involvement that makes me want to champion her it's her resilience in remaining so when events would excuse otherwise. Mary introduced me to Mary Barbour's life and work resulting in my playing her in A.J. Taudevin’s acclaimed piece Mrs Barbour's daughters' On its Scottish tour. I have witnessed Mary's great intellect, warm heart and her track record of service to others, all of which is exactly the traits needed in our leaders on this current political climate"

Ailsa Dewar, Retired - Kelty... "I have known Mary now for a number of years and I support her 100 percent in her candidacy for lochs councillor. Mary would be excellent councillor for this area. She is aware of what issues affect the people, and will make her voice heard and will do her utmost to deliver on her promises given the support of the people in this area"

Nancy Wilson - Ballingry... "I haven't known Mary Lockhart all that long but I feel that I have known her for ever. I do know that there isn't anything this woman won't take on to help others within our community. Just recently I asked Mary to help with trying to stop our local bus service being taken away from us – I need it for getting to and from my work in Kirkcaldy - and she grasped the challenge with both hands. She set up meeting and took to the streets with petitions etc all this through one chat with Mary. There isn't another person like her and I for one wouldn't hesitate to ask for help again. A true friend and the person that I will be supporting in the election"
