We're on a mission to use sport as a tool for social change and create more opportunities for women of colour. Can you help us? #220by2020

GirlDreamer is an empowerment platform for the next generation of women of colour. Through leadership development programmes and community initiatives, we seek to educate, elevate and empower young women so they are equipped with the access, skills and confidence to unleash their potential and fulfil their dreams.
In 2017, we set up a community initiative called 'Boarders Without Borders' to use sport as a tool for social change. This happened to also be Europe’s First WoC *Longboarding Crew. Through this we have been able to push social boundaries, build better representation and create more opportunities for women of colour that would not exist otherwise. We are passionate about building a movement that is by the community, for the community and the betterment of society as we continue to look as more accessible ways to bring people together. We are also creating the next generation of filmmakers because stories like ours need to be told from the narrative in which they belong. Through this Crowdfunder we will provide hundreds of women of colour with the opportunity to engage in different adventure sports, undertake a leadership programme to help develop their skills in everyday life and professional growth, upskill women to become coaches in the sport to lead the next generation and receive full media training to continue telling the stories the mainstream leaves out. This campaign is about more than just sport and film, it’s about representation and opportunities for one of the most marginalised groups in society.
*Longboarding is the act of riding a longboard. A longboard varies in shape and size unlike its set counterpart, the skateboard, and has more stability, traction and durability due to larger wheel size and lower wheel durometers. Started in Hawaii in the 1950s when the waves were low and surfers wanted to bring their surfboards onto land and continue riding. It caught on majorly in California and has since spread around the world. We now want to build it in the UK and put women of colour at the forefront of this sport. Just imagine!
