Help us raise £100,000 towards buying The Bevy’s building and securing Brighton’s only community-owned pub for generations to come.

Twelve years ago, local people came together to do something pretty remarkable. They took a boarded-up pub on a Brighton housing estate and brought it back to life.

After years of campaigning, fundraising and volunteering, The Bevy reopened in 2014 as a community-owned pub. Since then, we’ve built something we’re rather proud of. A proper local, a thriving business and a place where people of all ages come together.

But there’s one thing we haven’t managed to do yet.
We own the pub, but not the building. Now we have the chance to change that.

MORE THAN A PUB

When we say community, we bloomin’ mean it.

There’s Family Thursday, with free food and activities for local families. Our Seniors Club brings older people together for lunch and good company. Music & Memories welcomes people living with dementia, while Disability Disco is run by and for disabled people.

Then there’s Job Club, Book Club, growing our own fruit and veg, volunteering, live music, quizzes, pool, darts and everything else that makes a proper local worth having.

Some come for a pint. Some come with the kids. Some come for lunch, a dance or simply a bit of company.

Today, The Bevy welcomes more than 800 people through its doors every month. Behind it all are thousands of volunteer hours, friendships and neighbours looking out for one another.

Twelve years of blood, sweat and beers. And we’re not finished yet.

ONE YEAR TO MAKE IT OURS

The Bevy isn’t a failing pub asking to be rescued. We’re a busy, profitable, community-owned business that’s spent more than a decade proving there’s another way to run a local.

Our landlord, East Brighton Trust, has agreed to give us until 1 October 2027 to buy the building, including the pub and three flats above it, for £500,000.

To make it happen, we need to bring together £600,000 to cover the purchase, essential improvements and associated costs.

We’re working to raise the money through a combination of donations, grants, loans and investment.

Our first target is £100,000 from the public. That’s where you come in.

Every pound raised helps us get closer to owning the building and reduces the amount we need to borrow. That means more money can go back into the pub and the community around it.

Funding method

Keep what you raise – this project will receive all pledges made by 1st January 2027 at 10:26am
