Bury Rugby Union Football Club was founded some 147 years ago and as a result of the efforts of generations of members, volunteers and supporters, we have expanded our facilities and the sporting opportunities we can offer to our community. We are a local amateur rugby club and continue to be a valued part of our community.
Bury RUFC is a progressive, inclusive community club that provides rugby for all, with a thriving Mini and Junior section, Men's and Women's teams and touch rugby
.
Bury RUFC supports the core values of teamwork, discipline, enjoyment, sportsmanship and respect in all its activities.
Unpaid volunteers maintain the grounds and clubhouse. Volunteer coaches manage all teams whilst undertaking safeguarding and administration roles.
We provide facilities for other community organisations, who hold meetings at the club. Local schools and colleges regularly use our pitches and gym. Our club and its members raise money for many local charities.
During the pandemic we have lost considerable income from events, games and fundraising and we are now subjected to a dramatic increase in the cost of running the facilities . This has reduced the amount of money available from within the club for important maintenance and improvements.
We need the support of our local community ,members, volunteers ,sponsors and all the other users of our facilities to help to fund the necessary improvements to our facilities. We want to continue to offer a wide range of activities and increase our capacity to be able to offer more opportunities for playing sport and social opportunities for the wider community.
Bury Rufc is based in one of the 20% most deprived areas in the UK and our facilities are a focal point for the local community which needs to be maintained and improved.
We have existing flood lights that use lamps that are no longer available ,when one fails we will be unable to replace it. They are over 20 years old and are very expensive to run. The first part of the project will be to pay for an LED upgrade of the floodlights dramatically reducing the carbon footprint and running cost whilst increasing the area lit and available for night training.
Our existing car park is uneven and large parts of it are unusable due to flooding when it rains. It is our aim to repair the surface with leveling, rolling, compacting and implement drainage where possible.
We have an area of old cricket nets which will be removed ,leveled and turfed in order to facilitate the creation of a new Junior Pitch, increasing the number of teams accommodated on match and training days.
Achieving our initial £20,000 target will help us to deliver these three essential maintenance projects. If we are able to reach beyond this to a 'stretch target' of £40,000 we would be able to complete phase one of our capital build project to extend the clubhouse.
The existing main bar area can hold only 120 which is now not sufficient for the number of people who want to attend our events.
The proposed extension when complete would create a room with a capacity of over 200 with an outside balcony on the members bar , this would increase our ability to hold larger events, increase our community room rentals and encourage more new activities.
There are three simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
