BURNLEY EMPIRE TRUST

RCN 1187606, Burnley

To PROTECT, PRESERVE and RESTORE for the benefit of the townspeople of Burnley in the county of Lancashire, and of the nation at large, the building known as the Burnley Empire Theatre situated in Cow Lane, Burnley, and its environs, and its historical, architectural constructional features.

BURNLEY EMPIRE TRUST

The Burnley Empire Trust (BET) was formed in late 2015 (following a hugely successful campaign by The Friends of Burnley Empire, which garnered almost two thousand signatures in an online petition in a matter of days) to raise public awareness about this existing asset and undertake the steps necessary to preserve and renovate it.

With the support of Theatres Trust and National Trust Burnley Empire Ltd was formed in December 2018 to take ownership of the Empire from the Duchy of Lancaster. From then onwards BET have been committed to securing the building as an opportunity for arts events, training and educational and employment opportunities.

When the restoration is complete, our objective is to facilitate a fully functioning performance venue for students at the colleges, private /corporate groups and professional and amateur theatre companies, providing them with an historically valuable performance space and adding a beautiful restored historic venue onto the circuit in Burnley, Lancashire.

This is not just about restoring beautiful architecture; this is about building a new space that through its work will support local businesses and people and bring prosperity to Burnley, both in economic and social terms.
