I have the amazing opportunity to volunteer as a midwife at Bumi Wadah birthing clinic in Dulag, Leyte in the Philippines.
Bumi Wadah was set up following the devastation caused by super typhoon Haiyan in November 2013. The clinic provides free and caring maternal and infant health services to underserved communities who may otherwise be unable to afford care.
Every day, more than 800 women die from pregnancy and childbirth-related complications - 90% of such deaths are preventable and 99% occur in developing countries such as the Philippines. Having access to a skilled attendant, such as a midwife, during pregnancy and childbirth is one of the most effective interventions to reduce mums and babies dying.
If anyone could spare even a few pennies for a donation to provide the centre with medical supplies which I will take over with me and for funding support it would be greatly appreciated :)
