We are raising funds to purchase land and rebuild an orphanage in Kenya to provide a safe, stable, and nurturing home for 80 orphans
In 2020, I connected with Fabian Oluoch, who runs Hilltop Orphanage in Kenya. Following my visit to the orphanage in 2023, I was inspired to take further action and subsequently registered Helping Hilltop as a Scottish charity.
Since gaining official charity status, we have been working closely with Fabien to help Hilltop Orphanage become more self-sustainable. Our efforts have focused on securing essential resources such as food and educational support for the children. Through numerous fundraising events, generous individual sponsors, and donations of items like seeds and water systems, we’ve made real progress in improving the lives of these children.
One key aspect of our support has been the sponsorship of individual children to ensure they can attend school. We’ve also received donations targeted towards sustainable farming and water access, both of which are vital to the orphanage’s future.
As we mark the completion of our first year as a registered Scottish charity, we are now looking to the future with greater ambition. We are preparing to apply for a range of grants with the goal of purchasing land and rebuilding the orphanage, including a school that meets current Kenyan regulations. This would allow all of the children—who are currently displaced and living with widows and local families in the village—to return and live together again in a safe and nurturing environment.
While the local families have opened their homes out of kindness, the children long to reunite and live as a family once more. In the meantime, we continue to cover the costs of their food, education, and medical needs.
Any support you can offer—whether through donations, sponsorships, or assistance in grant applications—would be deeply appreciated. Together, we can help bring these children back home.
