Help me to raise funds to complete my conservation studio so I can practice sustainable and environmentally friendly conservation!
I'm a book conservator working in Tottenham, North London. I have conserved important historical artefacts to ensure their safety for years to come: first edition American Civil War memoirs, early communist education booklets and eighteenth century children's books. Book conservators preserve history from the bottom up: often people's history that evidences their everyday lives.
I've managed to carve a career rescuing old books and paper artefacts and I care deeply about my responsibilities towards preserving this history. This year I have set up my own studio, building it out of an artists' studio complex- but I need your help to expand my business both sustainably and ethically.
The money I'm asking for will help me to buy new flooring and new doors: this is so I can seal my studio with breathable materials that can keep out damp and passively control the relative humidity and temperature. In other words, a green and sustainable archival environment.
The money will also help me to buy some essential equipment that can help me better take care of the objects I work on: a museum vac (a vacuum for safely removing harmful biological growth) and a suction table, which will help me more safely treat moisture-sensitive objects.
I care deeply about sustainably conserving and preserving books and our history for our future. Indeed, without sustainability, there will be no future for these objects.
Any donation you can give will be gratefully received, with a reward of a heritage, handmade, archival quality book.
