Aim
Creating a thriving wildflower meadow in Sale West - using the power of music to bring people together and inspire positive change
Despite its unwelcoming reputation Sale West Woods is experiencing somewhat of a renaissance of visitors, mainly families enjoying the new play equipment that has been recently provided . We hope to make use of the increase in visitors to provide family friendly opportunities and embed that sense of community ownership.
We have already had success with a small wildflower area and are now aiming much further to create a large swathe of wildflower planning for Summer 2024 and beyond!
One group that we are very keen to engage are teenagers not currently involved in community activity that use the park to congregate. During our action days we intend to use a methodology used in Europe called 'Rave The Planet', where we provide music as the backdrop to our labours and aim to change the perception of green volunteering.
We aim to boost volunteer recruitment and will be able to engage with local primary schools and Brentwood SEN college nearby to link in with their volunteering programme.
There will be informal education opportunities through the expertise provided by the conservation volunteers helping the community to learn about rewilding and opportunities to lean about insect surveys through bug trapping and analysis.
Any funds raised will help to buy the tools and seeds needed to make this project happen and we will include hand tools designed for those in wheelchairs and Motability scooters.
This project successfully funded on 16th November 2023
