Who are we?
Barton Town Cricket Club was formed in 1849 and is the oldest sporting institution in Barton Upon Humber. The Club moved to its present Marsh Lane ground in the early 1920's and although there are no records of where the club used to play, scorebooks from the early days confirm the existence of the club. (more research is being done on the subject as we speak)
No one quite knows how many teams the club operated in its early days but at the present time the club operates two seniors teams, which play on Saturdays. The club also operates a friendly XI when fixtures allow. The club also operates four junior sides, U11's, U13's, and U15's.
The two Saturday teams operate in the Lincolnshire League. The junior teams play in the Scunthorpe and District Junior Leagues.
Barton Town Cricket is Bartons only Cricket, Sports Club and Members Club with a function room available for hire.
Why are we crowdfunding?
Barton Town Cricket Club is seeking funding to develop new ECB-approved non-turf practice facilities that will complement and enhance the existing infrastructure at the club. The recent increase in player numbers at both senior and junior levels, coupled with the club's recent success, has heightened the ambition to further elevate the quality of training and playing standards. Subject to securing the necessary funding and planning permissions, the proposed development is planned for completion in Winter 2025.
Current Facility and Need:
Our current practice facility, which has been in place for over a decade, no longer meets the required ECB specifications. Over time, this facility has experienced significant degradation due to overuse, leading to a decline in its functionality. The surface has become worn, and the space is no longer adequate to support the increasing demands of our expanding membership.
Given the growth in membership, particularly at the junior level, the existing facility is no longer fit for purpose. A new, purpose-built, ECB-compliant facility is essential to meet the needs of our players and ensure the continued development of cricket in the area.
Project Outcomes:
The new practice facility will provide a modern, durable, and safe space for cricketers of all ages and abilities. Specifically, it will allow Barton Town Cricket Club to:
Increase Junior and Senior Offerings:
The new facility will support a broader range of training programs for both junior and senior players. It will provide a space that meets the needs of younger players, enabling them to develop their skills in a safe environment, while also supporting the performance and development of senior players.
Enhance Membership Growth:
Since the pandemic, Barton has seen a significant rise in cricket participation, driven by new housing developments in the area and a national resurgence of interest in the sport. Our junior and senior memberships have grown substantially, and with new ECB programs such as All Stars Cricket and Dynamo Cricket, we anticipate continued growth. The new facility will allow us to accommodate this increase, providing the space and resources needed to meet growing demand.
Develop the Next Generation of Cricketers:
The modern facility will serve as a key tool in training and developing young cricketers. Its ECB-approved surface and design will ensure that players have access to high-quality, safe, and professional-standard practice areas, which are critical for nurturing talent and fostering a love for the sport.
Enhance the Club's Reputation:
The facility will help Barton Town Cricket Club solidify its reputation as one of the leading clubs in North Lincolnshire. A state-of-the-art practice area will attract higher-caliber junior and senior players, further improving the quality of cricket at the club and reinforcing its standing as an excellent venue for amateur cricket in the region.
How we’ll spend the money raised
Barton Town Cricket Club will partner with ECB-approved industry leaders to design and install a state-of-the-art ECB-approved non-turf practice facility that will significantly enhance the club’s training capabilities. By working with expert contractors, we will ensure that the new facility meets the highest standards set by the ECB, providing our members with a professional and modern training environment that supports player development across all age groups and skill levels.
Professional Design and Installation
The club’s collaboration with industry leaders specializing in non-turf cricket surfaces guarantees that the new facility will be designed to suit the specific needs of Barton Town Cricket Club. The design process will incorporate cutting-edge materials and technology, ensuring a durable, low-maintenance facility that provides consistent, year-round usability. This will vastly improve the training options currently available, allowing the club to offer a broader range of programs and accommodate the growing number of players.
By utilizing ECB-approved contractors, we can be confident that the facility will comply with all required specifications, ensuring it delivers a high-performance surface suitable for both junior and senior cricketers.
Removal and Replacement of Current Facility
In addition to the installation of the new non-turf facility, the project will also involve the removal of the club’s existing facility, which has become degraded over time due to overuse and wear. The current facility, no longer fit for purpose, will be dismantled, and the new, modern replacement will take its place.
The removal and replacement process will be handled by the ECB-approved partners, ensuring a seamless transition with minimal disruption to club activities. This approach guarantees that Barton Town Cricket Club will have a fully operational, first-class facility ready for use as soon as the project is completed.
Enhanced Training and Development Opportunities
The installation of this new facility will vastly improve the training options available to the club, enabling Barton Town Cricket Club to:
Expand coaching programs:
With an upgraded training space, the club can introduce more structured coaching sessions for juniors, seniors, and women’s teams, enhancing player development at all levels.
Attract new members:
The new facility will enhance the club’s appeal, attracting new players from the local community and surrounding areas, further supporting membership growth.
