We aim to renovate and upgrade the outdated facilities of our pavilion to encourage community wide use in a safe and clean environment.
About Us
We are a cricket team located in the semi-rural community of Bryn, Port Talbot. The village has a small population, and the fields and pavilion have beautiful 360-degree views of the mountains.
We run the pavilion, which was built in the 1930's from a fund raised by the working miners and has been a centre to the community ever since. The pavilion and playing fields are fully maintained by local volunteers, who are made up of all ages, from grandparents to husband and wives and the children following on.
The facilities are used not only by the cricket team, also for the local charity run "Beast of Bryn" and by local children's and mixed ability rugby teams. The upgrades will allow us to offer extended use of the pavilion for these events and enable new and existing teams, family fun days to be created and run in a friendly and inviting space.
Our problem
With funding getting tighter and costs ever rising, the pavilion is falling into a state of disrepair. It has damp, mould and cracks are appearing and the flooring and other facilities, such as the kitchen, are falling apart.
The volunteers lead numerous fundraisers throughout the year and rely on generous support to keep the club running but this only stretches so far. The state of the facilities means we must be more careful of when and how the building is used.
Our aims
This fund is supported by Sports Wales, meaning every donation goes further to help us reach our target.
1. Upgrading internal facilities - Estimated £15,000
We will refurbish all aspects of the building including:-
2. Energy efficiency upgrades - Estimated £4,000
These will help improve the buildings carbon footprint.
3. Additional storage space - Estimated £3,000
This will allow us to create extra changing rooms within the building. By clearing two rooms we can use these for anyone who wishes to have a private changing area, hopefully encouraging and increasing participation.
4. Health and Safety upgrades - Estimated £3,000
To ensure the building is safe for everyone who uses, and it meets all requirements, we will have testing and action all findings.
Impact
By achieving the above, this will allow the building to be the centre of the village once again, bringing it back to how the miners had imagined. It will encourage increased participation in an already diverse and friendly community and preserve the building for future generations.
