Legends and Learners: Bringing generations together, on and off the pitch

Who are we?
Bryansford GAC is a proud, community‑based Gaelic Athletic Club with deep roots in the local area. For generations, our club has been a place where people of all ages come together to play, support, and celebrate Gaelic games, while building friendships and a strong sense of belonging.
Our members range from young children taking their first steps in sport, to senior players, lifelong supporters, and volunteers who have dedicated decades of service to the club. Bryansford GAC is about more than games and results – it is about community, identity, and passing on values such as respect, teamwork, and pride in our shared history.
Why are we crowdfunding?
We are crowdfunding to deliver an intergenerational project called Legends and Learners. This project will bring together our senior members and our younger players in a structured, supportive programme designed to share skills, stories, and experience – both on and off the pitch.
Many of our older members hold a wealth of knowledge about the games, the club’s history, and the values that have shaped Bryansford GAC over the years. At the same time, some experience loneliness or isolation, particularly if they are no longer actively playing or volunteering on a regular basis.
Through Legends and Learners, younger members will benefit from mentorship, coaching insight, and a deeper understanding of what it means to be part of Bryansford GAC. In return, they will help older participants stay connected, learn new skills (including basic digital skills), and feel valued and included within the club community.
The funding raised will allow us to design and deliver a high‑quality, inclusive programme that is accessible to all ages. This project strongly aligns with funding criteria focused on community wellbeing, social inclusion, intergenerational learning, and tackling loneliness.

How we’ll spend the money raised
We are committed to being transparent about how funds will be used. Every pound raised will directly support the delivery of the Legends and Learners project.
Proposed budget breakdown:
Programme coordination and facilitation costs
Equipment and materials for shared activities (coaching aids, heritage materials, learning resources)
Venue and facility costs (heating, lighting, room hire where required)
Training and safeguarding support for volunteers
Refreshments and hospitality to encourage participation and social interaction
Transport support for older members who may have difficulty travelling
Promotion and materials to document and share the club’s history
Coaches and specialist session facilitators
This funding will ensure the 8 week programme is welcoming, safe, and impactful for all involved.

Community impact
Legends and Learners will have a positive impact well beyond our playing membership. The project will:
Reduce loneliness and social isolation among older members of the community
Strengthen relationships between generations
Preserve and celebrate the history and heritage of Bryansford GAC
Support the personal development of young people through mentorship and shared learning
Reinforce the club’s role as a community hub
Our club facilities are used not only for sport, but also as a gathering place for
meetings, social events, and community activities. This project will further open our doors, ensuring Bryansford GAC continues to be a welcoming space for everyone.
