We'd love a "hang out hut" for older children to safely socialise together away from the rain! We'd also like to add a bit more to our park.
A refreshed Brooke Playpark Committee was formed in October 2018 to address the closure of our local park as a result of poor installation in 2011. We are really proud that we opened a brand new park in July 2020 - a much needed safe place to play during the pandemic.
The Committee is passionate about ensuring that this play park is fit for purpose and continues to evolve. We consider play, particularly outdoors, to be so important for children and young people. Play is essential to development because it contributes to the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional wellbeing of children and young people. Play also offers an ideal opportunity for parents to engage fully with their children and we know that despite the benefits derived from play for both children and parents, time for free play has been markedly reduced for some.
A particular group we think we'd like to support more is the older children in the village. They don't really have any facilities in the village or even a place to sit and chat. We would love to provide a "hang out hut" for them as a safe and dedicated space to socialise and keep out the elements. This would be in the form of a wooden construction with a roof and seating.
We would also love to keep fundraising to buy a couple more pieces of equipment for the park to keep it fresh and ensure it continues to be well used. The park has made such a difference to families in the village. Our design and ethos aim to represent the local farming community that supports and surrounds Brooke and we aim to encourage a greater diversity of people to use the space.
