To offer children an outdoor environment in which they can care for & take responsibility for animals to enrich lives in tough times.
We are a school in an area of high deprivation in the borough of Croydon. We recognise that Covid has been really hard for some of our families as they have been in small accommodation unable to get out. We also recognise the value of being outside, animal welfare and taking responsibility for another living things.
We aim to give children a purpose, while also building their resilience, independence and empathy. To start with we will find out about and care for chickens, guinea pigs and fish. But we hope to develop this into owning other small animals when funding allows.
We hope to fund 2 streams of the project - one encouraging children who choose to take part to come weekly and develop their ambition and aspiration. With the second stream being a session for children who we feel would benefit from taking part in this kind of activity for social and emotional reasons.
We hope to raise funding to pay a member of staff to run the session and to both continue the upkeep of the animals and develop their space into an ever growing enriching environment for both children and animals.
