Broad Plain RFC Flood Lights Upgrade

Aim: We are match fundraising with Sport England to install much needed energy efficient LED Floodlights to enhance our club's rugby experience.

Who are we?

Broad Plain RFC are based in the heart of Bedminster, Bristol and were founded in 1909. We are the closest Grass Roots club to Ashton Gate, home of Bristol Bears Rugby.

We've seen strong growth in both our Junior & Seniors sections and will be pushing record breaking membership numbers next season.

Our teams range from U6-U16s in the Juniors and the Seniors have 2 men's teams both achieving promotion at the end of the 2024/25 season.

We are a Bristol Bears Connexion Club and have been working with their Community Foundation team over the last 3 seasons to improve the coaching and rugby experience for the players and families.

Why are we crowdfunding?

We desperately need to upgrade our old halogen flood lights to new LED ones. The improvement will provide the club with substantial gains in multiple areas.

First, we should see a substantial reduction in our energy usage and in turn cost. It is estimated we will see a large reduction in energy usage from the LED lights, meaning the savings made can be re-invested into enhancing club facilities for members.

Second, we will be able to offer evening games and functions to other clubs / organisations, something which has been really well received previously. We unfortunately, lost a partnership with a Tag Rugby company due to the inadequate lighting, showing the impact our current situation is having.

(Below our last night game, a great evening, but made difficult with 2 failed lights!)

Lastly, by lighting up the whole ground we will be able to manage the pitch surface more effectively and reduce the wear and tear.

We are asking for support from members and local community to be able to deliver a simple but essential project to help the club to improve its experience for all who use it.

Thankfully we are eligible for 'Matched Fundraising' from Sport England to help us reach our goal.

Community impact

We are in the heart of BS3 in Bristol and work with many different organisations, by reducing a significant cost we will be able to improve other parts of the club for its members and other users.

Additionally, the community feel of an evening game is a great spectacle and brings everyone together, something, we are really keen to put on once the work has been completed.
