Now imagine you’re a soldier having to protect the frontier against hostile tribes... Or a Celtic warrior defending your land against the best army in the ancient world. Could you survive, would you survive?
Imagine no longer. This is Britain’s BIG Fort Build – the first and only entire Roman fort to be built in Britain for nearly 2,000 years!
Now you can see, touch, smell and taste this incredible experience in our full-scale authentic Roman auxiliary fort that recreates how tough and challenging life was for troops and Celtic tribespeople since the Romans arrived on our shores.
The Campaign Continues!
Thanks to your generosity and the hard work of our fort build team, we’ve already built the ramparts, barrack block, workshop, defensive corner towers and perimeter fence.
But now our most ambitious challenge yet is to build the commander’s headquarters - the principia - the strategic centre of operations containing the legion's standards, the shrine and soldiers' pay chest.
Target Milestones
We need to rapidly raise funds to build the headquarters building and we plan to do it in easy stages or 'milestones'.
We're laying the foundations ourselves to get it started (cost £9k) and we would be very grateful for your help to raise funds for
- Milestone 1: the timber frame & specialist team = £30k+
- Milestone 2: the roof = £10k
- Milestone 3: the walls and decor of this impressive two storey structure = £10k
