Help them get started
Your support makes a difference
We welcome donations towards the cost of running the annual Bristol Jack in the Green. Help us bring joy and excitement to the community!
Bristol's Jack in the Green is the city's centuries-old celebration of the coming of Summer. The event brings the community together, as people from across Bristol encounter Jack and share in this joyful celebration, just once each year.
Why your donation would help
The ever-increasing cost of materials and venue hire for our preparations means that all donations are hugely appreciated and make a big difference. Your contribution will help us to keep the event running in future years.
About Jack
On the first Saturday in May each year, Bristol’s Jack in the Green dances through the city's streets from the historic Harbourside up to Horfield Common - travelling many miles on his six-hour journey.
Jack is a colourful figure, nine feet tall and covered in greenery and flowers. He is accompanied by his attendants, with their distinctive green ragged costumes and headdresses made of leaves and spring flowers. They mark his journey through the streets with music and dancing.
Passers-by stop and watch, enjoy Jack's dancing, or follow for while. Some come all the way to Horfield Common, where Jack meets his end, and onlookers have the chance to take away a few leaves and a little of Bristol’s history and culture.
