What, when, why, how
Following severe, prolonged drought throughout the region, a small group of us are travelling to Zambia 7-14 April, 2025, to deliver aid and create a keyhole garden with an irrigation system for a rural community.
This is a not-for-profit initiative with participants funding their own trips and with Splash Projects covering the costs of various elements.
We are working with ECHO Zambia on the project's delivery.
Our team of eight will be joined by a number of young ambassadors from One Young World. And representatives of Icon Lifesaver are joining us to investigate the water quality at the location. The company is supplying £2,000 worth of water purification kit including a C1 water purifying system and specialist water jerrycans.
What we need
We would like to purchase the following items and donate them to the community when we're there.
- Solar lights and chargers (£120+)
- Fruit and vegetable plants (30 plants = £80)
- Footballs for the children (£20)
- Mosquito nets (£6)
- School textbooks (£5)
- Bags of Maize (25kg) (£10)
- Bicycles for clinical workers (£70)
Background
Throughout the year Splash Projects partner with businesses and business schools around the world, providing learning and development programmes for their teams which involve them building sustainable infrastructure for communities in need.
To date, we have delivered 500+ projects involving 65,000 participants, impacting 550 charities across 34 countries. Splash and ECHO worked together in 2017 to deliver an impactful experience.
In April 2024, Splash and ECHO joint funded a vehicle to the work of both organisations and to further their impact in the community.
Objective
This expedition will kickstart our Splash Ambassadors programme, giving individuals - including family, friends, colleagues and other groups, for example veterans - the opportunity to take part in an immersive experience and work with the community to create a sustainable future in their areas of need.
Through their expedition, Splash Ambassadors will become agents for positive sustainable change, and the Splash values of purpose, action, impact, legacy.
Our ambition is to inspire change and action at all levels including local and national government and encourage potential sponsors/donors.
The experience will be documented by a Splash photographer and filmmaker.
