We aim to use performing arts as a tool to enrich the lives and communities of those living in and around the slums of Ahmedabad.
I work for Moving Together, a community dance company working in and around Leicestershire. We provide dance classes for the Over 55's and Arts Award qualifications for children and young people from a diverse range of community groups.
We aim to take our work and inclusive ethos to India in partnership with DMU Square Mile and 15 DMU students studying Performing Arts, Dance or Drama in January 2018. Whilst there, we will reach out to as many people as possible in the community groups of the Ghandi Ashram and the local community in the Ramapir No Tekro slum. The programme will help everyone we teach to be inspired by a wide variety of dance/performance styles as well as develop their own sense of creativity that we hope will continue long after we leave. It's an amazing opportunity to share my love for dance and the arts with those that have been extremely less fortunate than I. I am so much looking forward to exchanging ideas and creativity with everyone we meet and seeing the positive impact our project will make to so many lives. I am certain I will learn more than I will teach.
I am currently working 2 jobs to try and scrape the money together to get myself to India so I can be a part of delivering such an amazing project but have set this up in a hope that anyone would be able to give me a bit of a hand!!! Any donations would be MASSIVELY appreciated and will be going towards my flight, accommodation, visa etc. Any excess money I fund-raise, along with my own savings, will be put towards some resources and props for the community to use while we are out there and after we leave.
Thank you so much in advance to anyone who contributes!
