To replace our leaking 50-year-old roof and install efficient heating so Dringhouses Scout Hut stays safe, warm and usable.
Dringhouses Scout Hut has been at the heart of our community for over 50 years. Our much-loved hall was built more than 50 years ago by volunteer Scouts, with huge support from St Edward the Confessor Church and the wider community of Dringhouses. It has provided a safe and welcoming space for generations of young people.
Today, the building is still heavily used every week by Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers, supporting around 300 young people, alongside a dedicated team of over 80 volunteers. It is a place where children learn new skills, build confidence, make friends, and take part in adventures that shape their development.
However, the building is now facing significant challenges. The roof is over 50 years old and is beginning to fail, with leaks already appearing. If left unaddressed, this will continue to worsen and risk damage to the building itself. The roof also supports solar panels installed by the church, which help reduce energy costs, so replacing it is essential to protect both the hut and its wider sustainability benefits.
At the same time, our heating system is outdated and inefficient. It struggles to keep the building warm during colder months and is increasingly costly to run, limiting comfort for young people and putting pressure on running costs.
We are aiming to raise £28,000 to replace the roof and install a modern, energy-efficient heating system, helping to secure the long-term future of the Scout Hut.
The new roof will stop leaks, protect the structure, and safeguard the building for decades to come. The improved heating system will make the hut more comfortable year-round, reduce energy use, and help bring down running costs so more funds can go directly towards supporting young people.
By improving a much-loved and well-used building, we will be protecting a vital community asset and ensuring that Scouting in Dringhouses can continue to thrive for many years to come.
Every donation will help us secure the future of the hut for the hundreds of young people who rely on it every week.
