Hi, I'm Liezl, an engineer turned dancer and founder of Dew Dance.
Dew Dance is an emerging contemporary dance company in High Wycombe, creating engaging and thought-provoking dance work with a heart for the community; the residents that live here and the artists who work here.
Art is for everyone - even for the residents and communities of High Wycombe and Buckinghamshire. We bring high-quality dance work to communities in Buckinghamshire that otherwise might not have access to it, your funds make this possible.
My aim with Dew Dance is twofold: to create a sustainable dance company that is self-sufficient and employs a multitude of local artists (not just dancers, but photographers, visual artists, designers, makers, etc), providing career prosperity; and bringing high-quality dance to those that don’t have access to it.
Dew Dance will bring together these artists, grow new networks and provide opportunities where they are. We will offer work and enable artists to connect, promote one another and collaborate. We will build into our local community through events, and providing accessible art. We will team up with local charities and businesses, to bring arts to their members and create positive change.
We further want to provide opportunities where local communities can experience and participate in dance to tackle loneliness, improve mental wellbeing, physical health and feel joy.
We will create new dance work with a message, performance projects with communities, dance workshops, form partnerships with local businesses and charities and build a local dance network.
Dew Dance is more than just a dance company. We want to work with local businesses around High Wycombe and the areas we perform in and bring them on board the journey.
What is our next?
We recently had our first public performance as part of Buckinghamshire Culture's Bucks Open Weekend, called Under the treetops. We want to expand on this outdoor work and tour this to gardens and bespoke outdoor settings across the region.
Under the treetops is an outdoor contemporary dance performance, celebrating nature and the significance of trees, intertwined with stories of the community. Through the performance, we explore how trees signify growth, sustain life and are a place of shelter. Trees are home.
“Movement is such a powerful tool to tell creative stories. We’ve spent so much time indoors and on our own these last two years. It’s time to get together again as a community, build relationships, get moving and be refreshed with a new sense of awe for our environment.”
This work weaves in stories from our community, which we gathered at a creative movement workshop earlier this year. It makes it more personal and allows us to bring our audience into the experience as well. Art is a key to bringing us all back to nature and unlocking our own stories.
By bringing this work to outdoor spaces, we invite the community to come along and experience nature and all the health benefits that go along with being outside. We also encourage making new connections, having been isolated by ourselves for so long.
"A beautiful, exciting and unexpected treat for the senses." - audience feedback
"Very moving, amazing performance" - audience feedback
Why do we need your help?
We are a new company just starting to test our wings to fly. Up to now, we have been self-funded and will only be able to continue with financial support to get our new project off the ground.
Your contribution will help us secure local artists and help us keep making our work accessible at low cost or free to the communities we serve.
