Aim

We are creating the Brighton Dyke Pride our city deserves, but we need your help to make it happen.

Our beloved Brighton has been revered as a safe haven for queers and has been shaped by it’s LGBTQI+ population for decades, yet, it is currently one of the only major cities without a Dyke Pride or march. Brighton ‘Pride’ weekend has lost itself to capitalist/corporate interest and has left dykes on the outskirts, forgotten about, for far too long. Earlier this year, a small group of us got together and decided to channel our frustrations, skills and resources into action. We deserve our own space, one that's fully trans-inclusive, accessible, cross-generational, and community-owned. Nothing fancy, but a free DIY celebration where we can be visible and safe.

We are seeing a rise in fascism and transphobia globally that many of us have never experienced before in our lifetimes. The scale is scary, but a remedy to the sense of overwhelm is to focus on what can be done locally. Community action and community care are two of our most useful tools in surviving turbulent times and making meaningful change, but neither is possible without community. So, we hope this will be a space to build roots, to share ideas, to feel our rage together, share in joy together, and to celebrate ourselves. The patriarchy isn’t working, the world needs more dykes, it’s time for Brighton to have a Dyke Pride!

We have a location and a date, and are working behind the scenes to make this the dreamiest day possible. But what it looks like depends on how much money we can raise. We're keeping costs as low as possible and will be transparent about how we allocate our budget.

Our budget range includes the lowest possible we need to hit to make it work (think DIY picnic in the park) to our dream goal (allowing us a small stage platforming local dyke talent).

We are hopeful this will go on to be an annual community-owned event that brings dykes together year and year. But we cannot do it without you.

Please consider supporting us in any way you can ❤️

Brighton Dyke Pride (Saturday 5th September)

Budget breakdown:

  • Minimum, £1000 - we need at least this to cover public liability insurance, council fees, toilets, BSL interpretor, small speakers and a mic for speeches and music.

  • Our dream total, £3,000 - If we can hit this, we will be able to cover all of the above, plus a small stage, a generator, performer travel costs, and a small contingency budget just in case. If we come in under budget or raise more than this total this will allow us to pay a performers and speakers for their very valuable time.

Fundraising event: Dyke Day Vol. 2 (Sunday 26th July)

You may remember earlier this year we held Dyke Day, a tester to see the need for local dyke spaces. This sold out our 500 capacity venue and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive, confirming what we had already guessed: Brighton desperately needs more community-led spaces for dyke joy.

To support us with this fundraiser, we are bringing you DYKE DAY VOL. 2 💫 a packed event full of DJs, drag cabaret, an arm wrestling contest, arts and crafts, and more! All proceeds from this event will go towards this crowdfunder and help us reach our goal. Find out more and get your ticket.

We know money is tight right now, and there are so many worthy causes to donate to. If you can't financially support right now, please share and tell your friends. Everything counts.

Let’s make dyke history 💘

THANK YOU <3
