We want to get a Community Workshop and Tool Library scheme up and running in Brighton.
The basic idea behind the Brighton Community Workshop Project is to create a space where the community can come together to practice, learn, share skills, and teach some traditional crafts like metalwork, woodwork, leatherwork, papermaking, pottery, and glass craft. The project will also include a Tool Library. Tool Libraries are just like book libraries: as a member you can borrow tools, do the job and return the tools for someone else to use.
With the tools and space available in a workshop there is the facility for people to work together in a collaborative and sharing way, passing on ideas, tricks, and skills, as well as lending an extra pair of hands when needed. This is why we need the Brighton Community Workshop Project. Too few of us have the luxury of a space to work on some of the larger projects we might want to tackle or access to the tools needed for all kinds of creative tasks.

We are very ambitious, and one of the goals we want to work towards is providing learning and skill improvement activities such as short courses on; making a wooden soap dish, making a leather belt, designing and making your own joiners mallet, making pushsticks for use with a bench saw, welding a desk tidy, and beginners wood turning, and much more.

We want to make this happen and we hope that you will help us make it happen, time is short and all the monies pledged will mean nothing if we can not reach our target as all the monies will be returned to those that have made the pledges. So please if all you can afford is a few pounds this could really make a huge difference.
