The Brighton BASH Carnival, a vibrant celebration of Black culture in Brighton & Hove, is coming to St Ann’s Well Gardens on Saturday, 26th July 2025, from 11am to 8pm. Organised by BARCO (Black Anti-Racism Community Organisation), this event is an intentional statement of inclusivity, aligning with Brighton & Hove City Council’s vision for an anti-racist city.
Now in its fifth year, the carnival has become one of Brighton’s most family-friendly, diverse, and inclusive events. BARCO creates opportunities for Black communities and their allies to come together, making space for joy as a powerful response to racism and oppression. ‘BASH’ stands for Building Alliance, Solidarity & Hope, and this year’s event promises a day of music, dance, food, and cultural celebration.
A key highlight of the Brighton BASH Carnival is the parade, held within the park, with this year’s theme: Crowns, celebrating the beauty, history, and power of Black hair as a symbol of identity, resilience, and culture.
Bud Johnston, Founder of BARCO, shares:
"Brighton deserves a carnival and parade that celebrates more. Forget being tolerable and performative, the Brighton BASH Carnival is an intentional statement that all are welcome here. We need as many supporters as possible to make this a reality”.
The Brighton BASH Carnival is free and open to all. For more details and updates, visit the BARCO website or follow BARCO Brighton on social media.
