by Borderline Support UK CIC in Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, United Kingdom

We are Borderline Support UK CIC and we are passionate about providing support to people living with, or affected by, borderline personality disorder (BPD). We are the only national non-profit supporting people with BPD.

We are a volunteer-led organisation which currently runs 10 peer support groups (9 online and 1 face-to-face) each month, and want to expand our service to launch face-to-face groups across the UK, as well as offer other free support services.

Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a serious and complex mental health condition which is marked by unstable moods, behaviour, and relationships.

People with BPD have difficulty regulating their emotions and controlling their impulses. It is one of the most stigmatised and misunderstood mental health conditions, within the healthcare system there are professionals who refuse to treat those with BPD, deeming them too difficult to work with.

Estimates of the prevalence of BPD are around 2% in the British population, and as many as 80% of people with BPD have suicidal behaviours.

One in ten people with Borderline Personality Disorder will die by suicide.

Professional support for those living with BPD is not good enough in the UK, too many people are left without treatment, discharged before they are well enough, or left on lengthy waiting lists.

We know first-hand the importance of peer support, shared experience and hope in recovery, and we aim to provide that through a range of support services. Your donations will help us to provide:

  • face-to-face support groups across the UK
  • walk and talk peer support
  • wellbeing groups
  • mindfulness and wellbeing sessions
  • counsellor-led support groups
  • 1:1 peer support
  • family and carer support
  • self-help tools and resources

We are a small organisation with big ambitions, but with your help we can support more people in need across the UK.

A note from our founder

My name is Tess, and I have lived with the symptoms of BPD for more than 30 years, so I know first-hand how devastating it can be, and how vitally important support is. When I was finally diagnosed it was a relief to know there was a reason behind the pain, mania, depression, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, hallucinations, self-harm and suicidal ideation - but I was also terrified as I suddenly had this frightening diagnosis and nobody explained what it was or how it could be treated, I was simply discharged back to my GP - who had never even heard of BPD!

So in 2020 I decided to launch Borderline Support UK with the intention that nobody should ever be in that position, left to suffer alone without any information or support.

Since then we have grown into a national non-profit organisation that provides free peer support groups, signposting, advice and information. We want to be able to offer as much support as we can to people who desperately need it.

Life with BPD is challenging to say the least, and trying to navigate life with this awful condition and not have any support is unbearable. We want to see a world where people get the support they need, when they need it most - and with your help we can make that happen.

Thank you for your support, it means the world to us, and to every person we support.
