Aim

Raising money for a bench on Streatham Common in memory of Bridged Hall (1959-2018)

Bridged Hall (1959 – 2018) was diagnosed with terminal cancer last year and died six months later at the Royal Trinity Hospice on 17 September. She would have had her 60th birthday on 4th February this year.

She lived almost all her life in and around Streatham – it was her home. But she didn’t just enjoy the things she loved, she fought for them – to make them secure, better and enjoyable for everyone.

It is difficult to remember now all the things she did for Streatham, but a few that come to mind are:

  • Playing a huge role in “Sustainable Streatham” (later Transition Streatham);
  • Setting up and running the “Hands Off Our Common” campaign to stop building on Streatham Common;
  • Being instrumental in helping to start the Streatham Common Community Garden project in the Rookery;
  • Starting and co-ordinating the Friends of Streatham Library when it was threatened with closure

She did all this with an energy and compassion that made her friends wherever she went.

During the last months of her life we talked about a memorial for her in Streatham. The one idea that we all thought was fitting was a bench on Streatham Common, so that all who knew her and wanted to remember her would have a focal point.
Lambeth Council has identified a possible spot on Streatham Common: on the south end of the path that runs across the Common. There are paving slabs already down and the bench would cost about £1,000.

Any extra raised will be donated to Bridged's Magnolia Tribute Fund at the Royal Trinity Hospice where she died.

This project successfully funded on 19th February 2019
