Getting in the Christmas spirit

As autumn draws in we have turned our minds to what festive sparkle we can bring to the village for Christmas.  Each year local families and businesses sponsor the 18 festive lights that brighten Henderson Street over Christmas time. Volunteers on the Community Council organise this and with the help of Friends of Bridge of Allan put up our sponsorship plaques thanking our generous sponsors. In previous years, during non COVID times, we have organised craft fairs, musical performances and food stalls.  

Last Year's Crisis

During last year's installation many of the lights were found to be in need of repair. Working closely with our contractor we managed to repair the lights but not without significant cost to the community council. We spent £1800 from our reserves to cover the additional costs. But we felt that it was vital that we had the Christmas Lights after all we had been through with COVID. 

This years Years Appeal

Due to the age of the lights and the impact of outdoor exposure during their use, the lights need repair and eventually replacing. This year we want to carry out a full refurbishment of each light before installation. This will give them another 4-5 years of service. The total costs of the refurbishment and installation for 2021 is £12,400. Our light sponsors have agreed to double their sponsorship to £300. 

We are reaching out to you, our community, our merchants, our students and our visitors to find the remaining £7,000 to achieve our goal. 

The Rewards

Our goal is to get the lights shining on Henderson Street, and what a reward that will be for locals and visitors in the dark winter nights! 

Bridge of Allan Scouts are designing a bespoke supporters badge to recognise your support this year.  We have 3 levels of rewards available.

1. Digital badges will be produced for donations of £5 or more for individuals donating.  To claim a digital badge make sure you select this reward.  Feel free to print and make your own badge or car sticker. You can always donate more that the £5 by adding an additional donation on the payment page.

2. Physical badges will be produced for donations of £10 or more for people living locally.  To claim a badge make sure you select this reward, we will also sent you a digital version.  You can always donate more that the £10 by adding an additional donation on the payment page.

3. Digital badges will be produced for donations of £50 or more for businesses donating.  To claim a digital badge make sure you select this reward.  Feel free to share on your website and social media, or print and make your own badge or window sticker. You can always donate more that the £50 by adding an additional donation on the payment page.
