#Briancant90 Birthday Fundraiser For Parkinson's is fundraising for Parkinson's Care And Support Uk Charity No. 1179246
£1,527
Six years ago we lost our brilliant dad (TV legend Brian Cant) to Parkinson's Disease.
Today (12/07/23) would have been his 90th birthday.
Thirteen years ago, he was honoured with a BAFTA for his outstanding contribution to children's television.
Ten years ago my twin brother, Peter Cant, decided to tweet #BrianCant80 and we were overwhelmed by the huge response - thousands upon thousands of retweets and messages flooded in, and so we felt we had to do something in response. We received thousands of birthday greetings, memories and tweets of gratitude from all over the UK expressing how Brian meant so much to so many. It was clear that he held and still holds a very special place in the heart of the nation.
We managed to raise a whopping £4000+ in Dad's name for Parkinson's UK!
When we were young we learnt that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease.
We watched him live with this cruel disease, while continuing to work and to support us along side our wonderful mum Cherry, with dignity and fortitude, for as long as was possible.
It was, of course, tremendously tough to see someone so loved, deteriorate in health so much. Someone who never complained, always had a joke up his sleeve, no matter how frail, and someone who always considered everyone around him before himself.
Once again, in memory of our Dad, we ask that together we do something wonderful in honour of all those who suffer from Parkinson's Disease, and all those facing it in the future, by donating to Parkinson's Care and Support.
With the cost of living being so difficult right now, thousands of people are struggling to afford the care and support they need. Parkinson's patients require many varied levels of care through all stages of the disease. We relied heavily ourselves on professional support, from daily checks, morning and night care and respite weeks.
Can you imagine? If everyone who watched and admired Brian throughout his career, donated as little as £2 to Parkinson's Care and Support in his memory, we could raise thousands of pounds for this amazing charity and help continue to improve the lives of patients and relatives.
He did so much himself for so many different charities, throughout his career. He would have loved to know that he can still make a difference even now.
Please help us in the fight for all Parkinson's patients. Let's raise a whopper for Parkinson's Care and Support.
With the complete understanding of how difficult times are for everyone right now, any donation, however small, would be hugely appreciated, to help a cause very close to our hearts.
Thankyou so much xxx
Parkinson's disease is a long, slow deterioration. Most people suffer with severe shakes and a gradual deterioration of movement. It’s incredibly hard for the individual and incredibly hard for their loved ones. There is currently no cure but Parkinson's Charities work tirelessly to discover new methods of controlling and, hopefully one day, curing this crippling disease.

Brian was my childhood "voice of calm" .... and he ( and Cherry) also wrote some wonderful scripts for us on Tweenies and I had the HUGE pleasure of meeting him just the once, but it made my year .... and lives in my memories forever. Much love to Cherry and the kids XX
