Aim

To provide secondary school children in Leicester with free orchestral instrument lessons and ensemble sessions.

Music has the power to change lives.

For many teens in Leicester, a city where over 40% of children live in poverty, the chance to learn an instrument is out of reach. But it’s more than just a skill they're missing out on—it’s confidence, teamwork, resilience and ultimately a more optimistic outlook on life.

After 25 years as a violin teacher, I've seen firsthand how music builds resilience, boosts academic performance, supports mental wellbeing and gives young people a sense of identity and pride.

My experience teaching in a local secondary school showed me the incredible impact of providing free lessons, instruments, and resources to kids who couldn’t afford them. That all came to an end last year when funding was cut, stripping young people of the opportunity to achieve better outcomes in life.

That's why I founded Polyphonic Youth.

Polyphonic Youth is a community interest company that offers free orchestral instrument lessons and ensemble sessions to young people in Leicester benefitting those who wouldn’t otherwise be able to access them.

We want to give every child, regardless of their background, the chance to unlock their potential through music.
