Aim

Bread that Bonds - bread making workshops that run over a two month period, focusing on individual Parent - Child relationship building.

Welcome to the 'Bread that Bonds' Crowdfunder campaign.

The aim of this campaign is to fully fund our six-month pilot programme. During this time we will design, develop, and run the first set of 'Bread that Bonds' workshops. These workshops will run over a two month period, focusing on individual child and parent relationship building, helping parents and children embark on a holistic journey into the world of bread making. Our program also has a strong focus on children's emotional literacy.

The funding will cover:

  • Programme development
  • Marketing and outreach
  • Venue hire
  • Purchasing of equipment
  • Delivery of workshops
  • Project evaluation and data collection

1. Each workshop will teach a new recipe and technique for making bread. Participants will build their skills each week, to help them achieve consistent results at home.

2. We will use the breads' proving (resting) time during each session, as a space to teach parents how they can work with their child to build emotional literacy and resilience. Which in turn will strengthen the Parent-Child relationship.

Join us in proving (pardon the pun) that bread making has the power to bond!

1676914450_flour_clap.jpgEach of the four workshops will be practical, fun and therapeutic, and deliver the skills, knowledge and confidence, to make uniquely brilliant bread each week. Participants will have a week in between each session to practice at home, using readily available ingredients.

Parents will learn how to make 'bread making' a part of a balanced, healthy diet, and a key part of their weekly routine, creating ring-fenced time with their child. Ultimately, this will help nurture a healthy and positive Parent-Child relationship.

Taking four simple ingredients, and transforming them into bread is magical.

Learning how to make an additive free healthy loaf at home, with very little equipment, is a skill everyone should have!

Making bread can have a profound impact on mental health and well-being.

There are many studies detailing the positive effects baking bread can have on mental health. Caroline Harrison a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist co-wrote a whole book on this subject called 'Breaditation'.

So far I hope to have convinced you that...

  • Homemade bread is much more nutritious than store-bought white sliced bread
  • Making your own bread is inherently fun and therapeutic

During the four practical workshops, parents will learn to use a variety of tools that help build a child's self-esteem and resilience - with the overall aim of promoting emotional literacy.

'Bread that Bonds' will promote mental health and well-being in children, in harmony with their care giver.

With your help we can design and produce clear, insightful, step by step resources that parents and children can access during the programme. We will be covering things like journalling, using the senses, emotional expression and regulation, as well as some meditation and relaxation techniques.

Building emotional resilience in children, and strengthening the Parent-Child relationship, is especially important for vulnerable families. Those families that are faced with additional trauma, living with issues around poor mental health, bereavement and/or domestic violence. Especially in the wake of Covid and the current financial crisis.

I am Marcia, a former professional baker and proud Ambassador for the Real Bread Campaign, working currently as a Child and Family Support Practitioner within a London primary school.

1676927626_cushion.jpeg'Bread that Bonds' will bring together my years of experience in baking and teaching, with the insights and training I have gained working with parents and children to improve their social and emotional well-being. My focus is on delivering fun and educational bread skill sessions, whilst being purposeful in encouraging healthy routines, and emotional regulation skills.

As an Ambassador for The Real Bread Campaign I encourage everyone to be making better bread, which is better for us, our communities, and better for the planet. My goal (with your help) is to reach our target and fulfil this aim...

Your support means we can bring this programme to life.

The pilot programme will not only benefit the families taking part, but will show the positive impact these bread workshops can have on developing healthy attachments and routines that could last a lifetime. This will also leave us in a strong position to go out to funders and local councils for additional funding.

How will the workshops 'work'?

We would like to operate a "Pay As You Feel" scheme...

1676810399_4.jpg

Our ambition is that participants, referred for this first cohort, will leave with the tools and confidence to continue to make bread a valuable, grounding, and delicious part of their everyday lives - long after the programme ends.

With a successful pilot under our belt, we will be able to continue to develop The Pay As You Feel model, encouraging everyone to take part - those that can afford to pay can help those that can't.

Thank you for your support!
