Thank you for helping the community cafe to support local people
We did it! Thanks to people's kindness we have met our £12,000 target!
Special thanks to a benefactor - who wishes to remain anonymous - for match funding the £6,000 target we reached on Christmas Eve.
Since opening on 1st July, Bramley Community Cafe has become a friendly, accessible, affordable place to eat freshly cooked food, meet others and learn about the good stuff going on in Bramley and surrounding areas.
Located on Bramley Shopping Centre, between the local supermarket and a pawn shop, our location enjoys the highest footfall in Bramley. In the day time the shopping centre is a place where local people go to avoid loneliness and the cafe is ideally positioned to reach those that are unaware of the wide range of local community assets that they too could benefit from.
Due to a range of encountered reasons (e.g. insufficient power to the kitchen) we fully opened the community cafe later than planned. Consequently losing takings whilst we still paid overheads like the rent, service charge, rates etc
The good news is that we now have a fully functioning kitchen, a very accessible community space, serving good quality home made food to local people. And takings are growing.
The bad news is that the delayed opening means that we are behind budget and the cafe is facing serious financial challenges. Consequently, we have sought support and we'd like to thank those kind people that have responded to our request. With your support we were open on Christmas Day to provide a free, home cooked meal for those that could otherwise have eaten on their own on Christmas Day, including someone who has for the previous nineteen.
We are also thankful to the help the cafe receives from local volunteers, who help us to engage with Bramley residents - young and old - and those largely unaware of the help and support that exists locally. They help provide a friendly, welcoming face and place to be with others.
If you need any further convincing about our friendliness then please listen to this Radio Leeds broadcast from the cafe (give it a few seconds to download before pressing the play arrow). As the presenter Rima says about the cafe: "there is all kinds of people, of all different backgrounds, of all different ages... Comfort food, comfort people, in Bramley."
