Understand how incorporating wellness activities impact the following brainwaves (Alpha, Beta, Delta, Theta and Gamma in day to day life.
The funds will be used to purchase an 8-channel MINI electroencephalograph and EEG cap as can be seen in the picture.
The aim is to capture EEG measurements including the following brainwaves (Alpha, Beta, Delta, Theta and Gamma) whilst conducting various activities that combine physical, mental and emotional stimulation, including music and dance.
The research project will show monitoring of EEG brainwaves. The aim/hope is to see a reduction within symptoms I currently exhibit. I will use 8 channel BrainAccess MINI electroencephalograph and EEG cap in conjunction with a First beat heart monitor which I currently own. I will be creating a weekly recorded check-in discussing the updates and progress that have been made.
Bit about myself, I am 32 years old. I live with epilepsy. In 2023 I experienced a grand mal seizure lasting 20 minutes, which I am very fortunate to have surived. Since then, I’ve begun to also experience non epileptic seizures, known as psychological seizures and have been given a diagnosis of FND (Functional Neurological disorder). In 2024 at the age of 31 I was diagnosed with CPTSD. I have through a test in association with Brain train UK and Cambridge university, recently discovered to be indicative of 5 out of 7 ADHD typologies.
Understanding how addiction, mood and neurological disorders have impacted my own life, prompted me to want to form Be More Peacock CIC. A community interest company focused on creating cultures that bring out the best in people, whether that be working/learning, whilst at the same time mitigate the effects of trauma.
In 2021 during the covid pandemic, a perfect storm ensued whereby the build-up of unresolved traumas were triggered by a highly stressful situation, brought on a mental breakdown, eventually leading to the 20-minute seizure I experienced in 2023. For those that do not know, any seizure lasting more than 5 minutes is classed as a medical emergency. It is a miracle that I am still alive, however, the impact has taken its toll on my health and provided a personal reason why I am so keen to make this research project a reality. Due to the severity in length of my last epileptic seizure, I am now at an increased risk of what’s classed as status epilepticus (death by seizure).
Sadly, it is estimated that worldwide 140,000 people die each year due to death caused by epilepsy (1,000 of those being in the UK).
My hope and goal from this research project is to help provide lifesaving information to other people who also live with epilepsy.
