Aim
Danbury Bowls Club are raising funds to complete a full renovation of our bowling green.
Who are we?
We are Danbury Bowls Club, a lawn bowls club based in Danbury, Essex. Established in 1932, we currently have approaching 100 bowling members and over 20 social members. We have numerous teams playing in local leagues and our members represent us at local, regional, county and national level. Other members enjoy a social roll up, the opportunity to meet other people, make new friends and keep physically active.
The club is an important part of our community, providing a safe place where people of any age, background or ability can join together to enjoy the sport of bowls. Social events, such as games nights, BBQ’s, music nights, quiz evenings, Xmas party and even fish & chip nights, create an opportunity for our members to socialise within the bowling season and even after the green is closed. Our regular winter games nights and social events provide an important lifeline to our members, especially those who live alone.
Why are we crowdfunding?
It is clear that any bowls club greatest asset is its bowls green, without a decent playing surface the game becomes difficult and less enjoyable. Unfortunately, our current playing surface has been repaired so many times that each year it gets harder to restore a level playing surface. It has been decided to completely remove the top surface, restore the sub layers, create a laser level surface and reseed.
We are raising funds to renovate the whole green at a cost of £25,000. After the work is completed we will have one of the best greens in the County, not only providing a much improved surface to our members but also enable us to host County/National matches. This would not only promote our club within the local bowling community, but also help attract new members, securing the future of the club.
How we’ll spend the money raised
In order to renovate our bowls green to the required standard, we are instructing a specialist company, whose experience makes them highly competent to achieve an excellent playing surface.
Community impact
The club provides a vital service to the local community. It allows members of the local community to participate in an active sport as well as providing a supportive social side.
