Our bowls green brings our community together. Help us fund an irrigation scheme to save water, protect the turf, and keep the club alive
Marshland St James Bowls Club is a small, friendly, and welcoming community hub where people of all ages come together. We offer free coaching, league play, club competitions, and a safe, supportive space for both new and experienced bowlers. Bowling is more than a sport here — it keeps people active, supports mental wellbeing, builds confidence, and creates friendships that span generations. We meet up to four times a week, giving our members regular opportunities for exercise, social connection, and fun.
Why are we crowdfunding?
Our bowls green is the heart of our club, but maintaining it has become increasingly difficult. Volunteers currently water the green using hoses and sprinklers, which is time‑consuming, inconsistent, and wastes precious water. A modern irrigation system will protect the turf, reduce water use, and free volunteers to focus on coaching, community events, and supporting members.
All non‑skilled work will be carried out by our volunteers to keep costs down, but the overall project is far beyond our small club’s resources. That’s why we’re asking for support from bowlers, local businesses, and the wider community. We’re also running raffles, open days, and applying for grant funding to help us reach our goal.
How we’ll spend the money raised
We will be fully transparent with our costs. Funds will go directly towards:
Installing a modern, efficient irrigation system
Essential materials and equipment
Professional installation work
Any additional turf‑care improvements needed to protect the green
A detailed budget breakdown will be shared so supporters can see exactly how their contribution makes a difference.
Community impact
Our club is more than a sports venue, it’s a lifeline for many. Bowling supports physical fitness, reduces loneliness, boosts mental health, and provides a safe, social space for both young and old. Families, retirees, beginners, and long‑time players all benefit from having a well‑maintained green to enjoy.
The club also hosts social events, open days, and community gatherings, making it a valuable asset for Marshland St James and surrounding villages.
