We're still collecting donations

On the 29th December 2024 we'd raised £15,043 with 81 supporters in 84 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
Bournemouth Lifeguard Corps is a voluntary club founded in 1965 for ages from 8yrs to adults, to learn water safety skills and drowning prevention. We aim to promote health and fitness through training on the beach and in the pool in teams and individually as well as improve physical and mental health by learning new skills in an active and fun way making lasting friendships too.

We are crowdfunding as our membership is growing and we need to purchase more equipment to enable members to stay active and participate in local and national lifesaving competitions. Our aim is to raise at least £7,500 as Sport England will then match this amount enabling our project to be complete.
The money we raise will go towards us purchasing 6 race boards and 3 skis. This will enable our older cadets and adults who have now outgrown our existing race boards and skis that we already have to continue their training and improvement of these skills. This enables them to continue entering competitions volunteering at events, keeping themselves fit and boasting self-confidence.
As more people encounter bodies of water in their day to day lives including swimming pools, lakes, canals, rivers and the sea, it is central to the welfare of everyone to learn how to be safe. It is important that we spread this message to as many people as possible in our community.
Our members additionally have the opportunity to train for National Lifeguard qualifications enabling them to gain employment and apply their skills further.
Recently one of our members successfully assisted a dog walker who had gone into the river to rescue his dog but then could not then get out themselves. Our member was able to apply their skills to this new environment, problem solve the situation and provide critical support to the person.
During the year we help provide rescue cover for local events including the British Heart Foundation pier to pier swim, triathlons, SUP race series and other swim events. We also assist with bag security in the two running events that are held locally in Bournemouth.
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
