Raising emergency funds to allow Borehamwood Foodbank to meet the increasing local need as more people struggle with feeding their families.

 New stretch target

Extra funding will currently go towards offering additional help for our service users struggling to cope with the cost of living crisis. We are providing food parcels of non-perishable foods, along with fresh food in the form of fruit and vegetables, bread, butter, eggs and milk. We will also offer toiletries which will provide our clients with dignity and self-respect.

All donations are most gratefully received!

Many thanks from everyone associated with the Borehamwood Foodbank!

Covid19 and the Cost of Living Crisis have impacted the Borehamwood Foodbank enormously. We are witnessing record levels of demand for our services and every week new people come to us for our support.  Over the past 2 years (2021/2022) we helped feed 19,991 people which represents 45% of the total number of clients we have supported since we were founded in 2013.

Whilst the impact of Covid19 has diminished recently, we are now witnessing a cost of living crisis that adversely affects so many people. As a consequence, we see that people are finding it really hard to cope with soaring food and energy costs.

1. We are sadly still seeing elevated demand across Borehamwood and Hertsmere as a whole, and we don't expect this to decrease any time soon.

2. We are seeing a reduction in food donations as peoples' shopping habits are changing with more on-line shopping.

3. Our regular volunteers are ready and willing to process food donations but we often have a shortfall. We are now having to purchase more essential items, including toiletries to meet demand.

We need your urgent help to fund the purchase of food and other essentials that are required to fill this gap.

More about Borehamwood Foodbank

First opened in April 2013, the Borehamwood Foodbank has provided a vital service in the local community to help the most vulnerable people in our area. Last year in 2021 our foodbank helped feed over 10,250 people, over a third of which were children.

Open twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays, we work hard to provide emergency food parcels to last 3 days. Last year 54% of the people visiting the foodbank were working, often full time and could not make ends meet being on zero hour contracts or part of the gig economy.

Additionally, we also host Family Lunch events where families can enjoy a healthy meal with the opportunity to learn new recipes and even help cook their own lunch!

Our foodbank is a project founded by local churches and community groups, working together towards stopping hunger in our area.  We have a holistic approach to our work, treating all clients as individuals, assessing the root causes of their issues and helping them seek solutions.
