Aim

Boothstown Residents Association is a community group for residents in Boothstown, Salford

Boothstown Residents Association is a community group for residents in Boothstown, Salford  We are asking for support for our Boothstown, Ellenbrook and Roe Green Youth Cafe.

The  Youth Cafe has been running for over a year, and has attracted around 100 young people each month, a fantastic achievement! The costs of running the club are around £10,000 annually to cover rent, staff salaries, and other necessities.

We have had support from a local Cllr, who has volunteered to cover room rental costs, which amounts to £1500 for one year.  We are committed to keeping the cafe open until May 2024, and after that point, we will need to find funds from other sources to continue providing for our youth.

Alongside this project we would like to create a history plaque within the area of the Standfield centre; reflecting on the history of the area. One of the wonders of Worsley is its underground canal system, however Boothstown has its own underground canal, the 'Chaddock Level'. Constructed c.1816 it ran from the canal near Boothsbank Bridge 950 yards northwest to the Chaddock and Queen Anne pits. The economy of Boothstown was based on the two Lancashire staples, coal and cotton and we would like to use this to design and install on a bench in the main square of the center, along with a plaque detailing this important part of its history. We will work with youths in the development of the design and work with a local manufacturer to create and install.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
