 New stretch target

Stretch funding will go towards making the memorial garden the statue will be placed in extra special. It will pay for additional planting, seating and landscaping options.

The story so far...

For the past two years Kirriemuir community group DD8 Music have been fundraising to honour one of the town's most famous sons. Kirriemuir was the home town of a little lad named Ronald. He was to grow up to become the lead singer of one of the biggest bands of all time, and a legend in the world of rock music, AC/DC's Bon Scott. DD8 Music plan to recognise this by having a memorial statue to Bon erected in the town. So far, with the help of the international AC/DC fanbase we have raised £33,000 of the £45,000 total we need. We are now looking to make a final push and raise the £12,000 needed to complete the statue.

Bon's Scottish home town

Kirriemuir already has a few things honouring Bon in the town. We have a street named after him - Bon Scott Place -, a memorial stone in the centre of the town, an AC/DC section in the local museum, and our annual music festival, Bonfest, that sees fans from all over the world travel to visit the town.

A statue for a legend

We believe that Bon's memory deserves an iconic memorial to match the huge influence his music has had on generations of fans.

We have commissioned renowned sculptor John Mckenna to create a life sized statue of Bon that will capture his personality, his stage presence and his Scottish roots. The money we have raised so far has allowed John to create the clay mould you see below. We now need your help to raise the final amount to cast the statue in bronze and install it in the town. When completed, the statue will be placed in its own memorial garden, on Bellies Brae in the middle of Kirriemuir.

If we are successful in raising the final amount by the end of September, then John will be able to complete the bronze work on the statue by the end of this year. We will then start landscaping the garden and hope to unveil the statue at Bonfest next year on Saturday 30th April.

Below is a resin mould of the statue's head. We took this to show in person to Tony Currenti, drummer on the High Voltage album, and a lifelong friend of Bon's. He was blown away by it and said "The head is fantastic and a very good likeness to Bon".

Mary Renshaw, close friend of Bon's, and described by former AC/DC bass player Mark Evans as Bon's "Soulmate" had this to say about the statue "I am totally thrilled with the amount of money that's been raised for the statue, which I've given my full support to right from the very beginning. I can't wait to see it."

We can make it happen!

Once in place the statue will be a fitting memorial to Bon and a huge tourist boost to the town, as we expect fans from all over the world to come and pay their respects. Bon's grave in Freemantle is the most visited one in all of Australia, and we think just as many fans will want to visit a memorial where he started his life.

We want this statue to be by the fans and for the fans, and so we are asking for the worldwide AC/DC community to come together and help fund it.
