We need to replace our very old and unreliable gas boiler system which provides hot water for our showers and heating throughout our club

 New stretch target

We always need more .

If we reach the higher target it will mean that our own funds ,which we would have used on this project , can  form a reserve to cover any unexpected costs  as part of our club is an old building ,over 100 years old , which  comes with its own maintenance issues

Update

The campaign was very successful and the boiler is in and working ,just to let you know that we will have a new campaign starting shortly to purchase the cabin by the pitches, so please have a look at our new campaign on crowdfunder

Our Need

We are a rugby club based in rural Teesdale in Co Durham. The gas boiler system we use to provide hot water for our showers  and also for heating is now over 20 years old and is inefficient and unreliable . We wish to replace the boiler system which will lead to a reliable method of provide showers and heating for all the club. Our showers have been added to over the years to cope with the ever increasing number of players, and thus it has  outgrown the boilers capacity

A new gas boiler will be far more efficient, thus it will also reduce our gas bills significantly thus reducing the overall running costs for the club ,which in turn will enable to keep our playing subscription's as low as possible . This will allow our club to be as accessible to as many as possible

Our new gas boiler ,yet to be ordered

Who are we

Barnard Castle Rugby Club was formed in 1975 and since then we have grown rapidly, we have two male senior teams ,our 1`st team plays within the  RFU league system. We have a strong Junior section with ages from  6 years upwards with mixed teams up to the age of 12 , then boys and girls play in separate teams to the age of 18 . We had 128 players registered ,last season, in the junior section   We also run a senior ladies section ,for the over 18`s ,and had an amazing 35 ladies registered last season

Community impact

  • We are the only rugby club in the Teesdale district  which  was the least-populous ordinary district in England (with a population of 24,457 in 2001) covers mainly rural upland areas . Thus  the  large area and low population gives us a range of problems to resolve,  but we do provide a hub for all who wish to participate in the sport of Rugby Union  young and old .We also provide a friendly environment for the  local community  to enjoy.  Our facilities are open for use by other community groups ,and are used  by several groups

The effects of COVID -19 on Barnard Castle RUFC

As with all sports clubs we had a hard time in 2200 and 2021 as our club was closed for most of the time .We survived financial, just ,due to help from government grants but our reserves were stretched. Then we saw them under more  pressure when we had to purchase a new grass cutter as our old one finally gave up  after many years service

We do not have the reserves to cover the full cost of replacing the gas boiler, thus we are using crowdfunder to raise additional funding .If we do not change  the gas boiler  before the start of the next playing season it is likely that the players will not have hot showers  after their game.

How we’ll spend the money raised

The money raised will by used to supply and fit a new gas  boiler which will be sized to meet our ongoing requirements. Any money raised will be added to the clubs own money to cover the project costs which have been costed at £8000

How our project will be United by Birmingham 2022

Being a sports club a lot of our members are already talking about  Birmingham 2022,and we plan to show as much is we can at the club .

We plan to have Birmingham 2022 themed days when all sections of the club can come along and join in the celebration of the games, thus the games will help our club become more together .
