I remember vividly receiving the dementia diagnosis for my husband Bob in the Memory Clinic. It was over a decade ago but its as if it was yesterday. It was a frightening and bewildering time and we didn't know what to do or how to navigate the journey ahead. We needed practical support in order for Bob to keep healthy and to maintain his mental well being for as long as possible. There is a saying 'you don't know what you don't know so you don't know to ask for it'. We simply didn't know what there was out there to help us and most of it was signposting to websites where it was a time consuming process, or phoning up helplines or waiting for agencies to get back to us. We needed practical help 'NOW'!
Time passed and I felt I wanted to use my experiences to help others to navigate their journey. I decided I COULD make a difference by using all my skills and experience of being a carer to combine resources to save others the time and stress.
In the pack I put together, is everything we found useful- so someone newly diagnosed can be offered this pack with all the relevant forms (printed), information, and activities that I believe can really make a difference.
