Block the block!
We did it
On 1st January 2021 we successfully raised £1,421 with 79 supporters in 35 days

Help us fund our campaign to stop a private development of 250 hi-rise student units on the site of the Gamecock pub.

 New stretch target

With this extra money we will be able to send a one-off mailshot to all affected residents, to ask them to respond to the consultation when the planning application goes in.

We'll also be able to fund additional campaign resources.

We are a group of residents living in Cooper House and Hopton Court in Hulme. Many of us have lived in Hulme for most or all of our lives. We have watched the pubs that we used to socialise in gradually disappear to redevelopment. We now have some shared gardens that we socialise in regularly instead.

A private developer is proposing to build an 11 storey block for 250 students on the site of the Gamecock pub which will block the sunlight from our gardens.

This is one of the last undeveloped pieces of land in Hulme. We have lots of ideas for other possible uses for the site that would be positive for the local community and would avoid loss of sun and heat from our flats and our gardens.

We have carried out a consultation with the surrounding community. Everyone we have spoken to (including local business owners and health care professionals) is against this development.

We need your help to convince the planning committee to reject these proposals.

We've engaged the services of a planning consultant who will be able to assist us in submitting a formal objection to the planning committee when the application is submitted in January. We're asking for your support to help us pay for this service, which will be invaluable in assisting us to build a robust case.

We're up against a well-funded developer, but if we all stick together we can win.

Help us block the block, and build a better, age-friendly, future for Hulme.

This campaign is supported by On Top of the World Hulme, Aquarius Tenants and Residents Association, Hulme Community Forum and the Greater Manchester Tenants Union.
