Aim

Funding doulas for Black mothers & birthing people across the UK who cannot afford it, because every birth deserves the right support.

Who We Are

Black Doulas UK CIC is a registered social enterprise born from a moment that changed everything.

When our director Sarah was pregnant, she searched for a doula who would truly understand her journey. Someone who would advocate for her, hold space for her, and make her feel seen in a system that too often makes Black women feel invisible. That search was not easy. And when our founder Bolia witnessed that struggle firsthand, she knew something had to change.

So she built it.

Today Black Doulas UK CIC has doulas listed across 15 locations across the UK, a growing community of trusted Black birth workers, and a mission rooted in one simple truth. Black mothers and birthing people deserve better. Not just better care. Better access. Better representation. Better outcomes.

The Reality

Imagine being pregnant and feeling afraid. Not just of birth, but of the system you have to navigate to get there. Afraid that your pain will be dismissed. That your concerns will be minimised. That you will leave appointments feeling worse than when you walked in.

This is the reality for too many Black mothers and birthing people in the UK.

Black women are 3.7 times more likely to die in childbirth than white women. Black babies are twice as likely to be stillborn. Black mothers are 13 times more likely to experience postnatal depression than any other race.

These are not just statistics. These are lives. And behind every number is a mother, a baby, a family who deserved so much more.

One of the most transformative things available to Black birthing people is continuous, culturally aware doula support. Research shows that having a doula present improves birth outcomes, reduces the likelihood of interventions, and makes a profound difference to the overall experience of birth.

But doula support comes at a cost. And for many Black families, particularly those in low income and underserved communities, that cost is simply out of reach.

What This Fund Will Do

The Support Fund for Black Mothers and Birthing People exists to change that.

Money raised will contribute towards three things:

  • The first is funding doulas. We will provide fully funded doula support for Black mothers and birthing people across the UK who cannot afford private doula care. Because the quality of support you receive during pregnancy and birth should never be determined by the size of your bank account.
  • The second is community events and workshops. We believe in the power of community. We will host free workshops, online sessions, and in person meetups where Black mothers and birthing people can come together, access information, ask questions, and feel less alone on their journey. From fertility to postpartum, we want to meet our community wherever they are.
  • The third is safe spaces. We are working towards creating physical and virtual spaces where Black mothers and birthing people can gather, be nurtured, and be celebrated. Spaces rooted in sisterhood, knowledge, and care.

Our Vision

We imagine a UK where every Black mother and birthing person, regardless of income or postcode, can access the compassionate, informed, and culturally aware support they deserve.

Where Black doulas are visible, celebrated, and found by the families who need them.

Where no one has to search alone.

Where the statistics that haunt our community begin, finally, to change.

We are not just here to talk about the problem. We are here to be part of the solution.

From Our Community

Black Doulas UK CIC launched in 2026 and in a matter of months we have built a directory of trusted Black doulas across 15 locations in the UK, welcomed families finding support, and watched a community grow around something that was long overdue.

This fundraiser has no end date. Because the need does not have one either. Every donation made today, tomorrow, or a year from now will go directly towards supporting Black mothers and birthing people who need it most. This is an ongoing commitment to our community and we are in it for the long term.

Here is what people are already saying.

"We need this."
"This is so important."
"Thank you for building this."

That response tells us everything we need to know. The need is real. The community is ready. And with your support, we can go further and faster than we ever could alone.

How You Can Help

Every donation, however small, brings us one step closer to making this a reality for Black families across the UK.

Please donate. Please share. Please tell someone who needs to hear about this.

Because you being here, reading this, caring about this... that is already part of the change.

Leading with solutions that change statistics.
