Aim: We want to commission brilliant life-writing on the theme 'Democracy in my Lifetime' by 5 black writers, following an open competition.

We want to commission five brilliant pieces of creative nonfiction/life-writing on the theme ‘Democracy in my Lifetime’ by black writers across the age/gender spectrum.

We also wish to support those writers in filming the delivery of these exceptional pieces to camera with the help of industry expertise and editing back-up from Stream-Lyric and partners.

In order to do so, we are looking to raise a commissioning fund over the next 3 weeks. The value of the commissions will be dependent on how much is raised; the fund will be divided equally. But we want to raise at least £500. Following this a Patreon page will be set-up to further support the company and project as a whole.

Pieces can take the form of: dramatic monologue, poetry, short-essay or speech of up to 1,500 words. However, they must fall into the bracket of ‘creative nonfiction’ or ‘creative life-writing.' We look forward to reading articulate and persuasive pieces, rich in ideas and with a memorable point-of-view.

We aim to offer a platform to remarkable emerging thinkers and imaginers. Entries will be judged by the Stream-Lyric team together with -

Arts Council England's Relationship Manager for Literature in the South East and published Writer, Jan Kofi-Tsekpo, and (tbc)

Films will be shared on the Stream-Lyric website Digital Page indefinitely, and across ours and our partners' social media for the duration of 2020.
