This project is funding the start-up of the first tattoo studio in Malawi, Africa: Black Fire Ink.
Gift Mwandama is an incredibly talented portrait artist, and qualified nurse - a perfect combination for a tattoo artist.
Gift has been working on improving his tattoo skills over the past year and is now very successful and busy, moving between his hometown, Zomba, and the capital city of Lilongwe to meet the needs of his growing list of clients.
Gift will relocate to Lilongwe in April, and plans to launch the studio in May this year. He has been offered 6 months free rent in a prime location setting to kickstart his business and accumulate funds to become self-sufficient.
We are fundraising to support the set up of the new studio, including; a wireless tattoo machine, tattoo chair and armrest, workstation and furniture, and a stock of consumables including cartridges, ink, caps, stencil transfer paper, skin pens, wrap, aftercare and cleaning products. Gift would also be grateful if any of these items can be donated directly for shipment.
Malawi has the fourth-highest percentage of people living in extreme poverty in the world. The unemployment rate is 90%. People who are as talented, determined and hardworking as Gift are rare treasures that can help to boost the business and creativity industries here and make a long-term difference.
