On the 15th July 2024 we'd raised £5,000 with 51 supporters in 56 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
We are Bishops Hull Cricket Club, founded in 1912, we are a community club fielding 2 senior men’s teams, various junior age groups, T20 and a Veterans team. The club’s home is ‘The Playing Field’ in the heart of Bishops Hull and is loved and frequented by the local community. The club is run and maintained by volunteers of both the cricket club and village community groups that are in much need of updated and improved equipment to allow us to bring cricket and overall enjoyment to the playing field for years to come.
Last year, an unfathomable tragedy occurred in which our much loved friend and team mate Barnaby Webber, along with two others, sadly lost their lives. Barnaby was the life and soul of the club, involved in every aspect playing in the youth section before making his mark at senior level.
We as a club aim to improve our pitch facilities and invest in new youth cricket equipment to enable more young cricketers to enjoy and succeed in cricket at our club the way that Barnaby did. A legacy we think Barnaby would be proud of.
1 - To purchase new/refurbished maintenance equipment in the form of various mowers and a heavy Roller. Machinery such as this is incredibly important for the preparation of the clubs playing surfaces used by both senior and youth players throughout the season. Modernised equipment will not only help the club to ensure that safe, good quality playing surfaces can be produced by the clubs volunteer ground team. But will also help the club reduce its carbon footprint and become more Eco friendly.
2 - To purchase new youth cricket protective equipment such as pads, gloves and helmets to allow all youth members to train and play fixtures in the safest way possible. We all know cricket equipment can be expensive. This will allow the club to give its youth members the ability to participate
3 - Finally, Surplus stretch funds will be used as a donation made to the BW53 foundation ran in Barnaby’s honour, that aims to provide support and inclusion for young people facing challenges in their lives, as well as supporting grassroots cricket clubs through the provision of essential equipment to encourage youth participation.’
If we are successful in reaching our target, the equipment purchased will greatly assist the club and its volunteers to improve the playing facilities and upkeep of the surrounding areas ensuring the playing field is an enjoyable place for all to enjoy, whether it is for watching or playing cricket, other exercise/fitness or simply enjoying the sunshine.
Improving our youth equipment will massively increase the clubs offering for young people to enjoy, participate and fall in love with cricket in a safe manner. In turn, we hope this will also enable the club to expand its youth section further increasing the opportunity for young members of the community to get involved.
With any stretch funds raised. Barnaby’s foundation aim to do the same on a much wider scale providing funds to clubs and organisations to enable young people to get involved in cricket and sport.
