This year we are #BreakingTheIce
Since January we've been training a group of emerging artists and hundreds of volunteers for our biggest production yet, Michael Tippett’s “The Ice Break”. An opera tackling race, riots and rebellion in the modern world
We've been working with charities and community organisations to bring free events and opportunities to the city’s diverse people.
We need your support to show again that great opera is for everyone!
YOU may already know us having seen our shows or even being in them. We want to continue to give more people THEIR first taste of opera the Birmingham Opera Company way.
Who we are
Birmingham Opera Company was born of a passion and a belief that opera can speak directly to all kinds of people. We use opera to deal with the social issues of the day, involving ourselves in local communities and making local people the focus of what we do. We bring diverse volunteers together with some of the world’s best musicians, directors and other industry professionals, to deliver international, award-winning opera.
We don't have an opera house and we don't work in conventional theatres. We present our work in places people wouldn’t expect to see or hear opera – an unused air hanger, a burnt out ice rink, abandoned factories or an old bank.
