We want to welcome our community into a warm space where we will show classic movies for all ages.
The core aim of the Birchvale Players is to provide performing arts opportunities to the community, including young people, harder to reach groups and those marginalised from society. The theatre in a normal year supports around 2500 people, made up of differing parts of the local community, including youth (8-18 years old), adult (18-60+ years old), those with additional needs (autism, OCD, mental health issues even suicide) as well as members of different communities i.e. LGBT and different ethnicities.

The sessions will be provided at a low cost to allow members experiencing poverty to attend and not fear a heavy charge. There is a thriving Youth Theatre for children and young people aged 8 – 18, meeting weekly and delivering a mix of drama games and workshops, aiming to ignite imaginations, boost confidence and self-esteem, unlock creative talents, improve communication and social skills, develop performance skills, self-reliance and resilience. Furthermore, it is a safe space for young people to be themselves without judgement and to meet like-minded people. Opportunities are available to all volunteers, members and session participants of all ages in acting, directing, scriptwriting, costumes, hair and make-up, set design, and prop creation, painting, backstage craft, prompting, lighting and sound production, programming, front of house activities including box office ticket sales, hospitality and ushering. We hope to bring together a wide slice of the community and support them through the current economic crisis.
We want to create a space where we can support our local community and thank them for their support over the past 90 years. This will be done by using our existing cinema facility to operate a warm space for a few hours a week maybe twice and provide a bright, welcoming environment for people to get warm and meet each other.
Any monies kindly donated will be used to purchase the relevant permissions and films to screen and any consumables required to help with running costs.
