We want to establish local groups right across the country so that people with bipolar have meaningful support where they are.
Be a lifesaver for someone affected by bipolar this Christmas
Someone with bipolar has a suicide risk that’s at least 20 times greater than someone without bipolar[1]. In fact, 1 in 20 people who take their own life in the UK have a diagnosis of bipolar[2].
Now, more than ever, we need your help – in a recent survey, more than half of people with bipolar told us their mental health has suffered during the coronavirus pandemic[3].
Yet with the right diagnosis, treatment and support, everyone with bipolar can live well and fulfil their potential.
Growing our in-person Peer Support groups
We know that people affected by bipolar benefit enormously from having someone to talk to, and particularly from having peer support from those who understand what they are going through. As Olly says;
"The groups are so supportive because you are amongst people who live and breathe bipolar. I’ve been coming to the support meetings for five years and they keep me afloat. They make me feel I’m not alone in living with this condition. When you are first diagnosed with bipolar, these support groups provide you with clarity and understanding about this illness, at a very scary and discombobulated time."
Our Peer Support groups are crucial for our community. We currently have 50 groups around the country. However, we know that until there’s a local group in each area, lots of people don’t have access to in-person support. That’s why we are determined to grow the number of groups – but we need your support to do it.
If we reach our target of £10,000 by 17 December, this will be match funded thanks to a pledge by our incredible Bipolar UK supporters.
So whatever amount you donate will be doubled.
If you give £20, Bipolar UK will get £40 etc – but only if this Crowdfunder reaches its £10,000 target. This is an ALL OR NOTHING appeal. If we don't reach the target your money will be returned to you. So, please do give if you can - and share this page with others.
There are thriving in-person Peer Support groups in London, Sheffield and Torbay. With your help we can provide the same support for people in Birmingham, Cardiff and Norwich - and in every local authority area too.
Thank you!
